The GR20 was my first solo long distance trail. I didn't have the days recommended by the guidebook so had to splice sections together to make it work with my schedule. This left me with two massive days in searing heat, which hurt, but it worked. I remember thinking, as I left my house, I don't know what I'm doing and I'm all alone. It turns out following a guidebook and signs isn't hard, and you can find company if you want it. I often don't. Trekking solo is second nature now. I love how it gives me time to think, to go at my own pace and just be.
