Borneo

There are three things that stand out from my time trekking in Borneo: humidity, leeches and orangutans.
While it is impossible to get away from the sticky heat, our team of young people got better at avoiding the leeches. We would occasionally have some respite from the trek to teeter across rickety bridges or watch fresh pineapple being harvested, machetes slicing with perfect precision. We saw a few orangutans swinging wild in the jungle, clinging to their homes, but many are needing rehabilitation in Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and it is impossible to observe them there without crying. After our trek we headed to the beach for some well-earned relaxation while appreciating the incredible sunsets.
